It’s nearly mid-month. How are you doing?
Speaking of the New Year, do you love it? Are you sick of it? Just don’t care?
I received a newsletter from Taylor, fitness coach and owner of She Thrives. I appreciate her response to the new year:
There can be so much pressure around this time of year, with everyone and their mother spreading their refreshed, rah-rah, new year new me vibes, and it can feel SO discouraging if you just don’t have that same energy.New Year Vibes – Taylor
So hear me when I say: if you don’t have goals or intentions for the new year: it’s ok.
One of the best things about being a grown ass adult is you can choose this stuff for yourself, whenever it feels right and whenever it serves you in a real way.
You don’t have to do it just because everyone else is.
Today’s email is just to let you know that if, like me, you’re still like wait what how is it 2019 I wasn’t ready?, it doesn’t mean you failed.
I’m right there with her. This year, January is a month of grace. I am writing things down, changing my mind, playing out scenarios, and erasing things off. I come back to the board again and again because this space is where I can figure out what I want to do.
Also, writing out the words, “January is a month of grace” feels transformative. When has January ever been about grace? Or, space? Room to breathe or time to be?
We get to decide what January needs to be instead of January telling us what to do.
Whatever you’re planning, wherever you are, or if not-planning is your January resolution, take the time. Let it marinate. You get to decide how to do this year. If a year is too much, break it down into six months, maybe three.
May it be full of grace.
And, exactly what you need it to be.
